For the past 18 years, Consolation Champ has played a benefit show on December 23rd, reuniting with many musical friends to celebrate the season and raise money for Twin Cities non-profits doing great work to serve the community. They are honored to hold the 19th installment back at Icehouse this year, with artist proceeds benefiting Free Guitars for Kids (FG4K) and their mission to transform the lives of kids in underserved communities through the gift of a guitar. Friend of the band Matt Houchin, who has been making history (and raising funds) for FG4K in 2024 by becoming the first person to wear a Hard Rock Cafe shirt every single day of a calendar year, will be on hand to finish his Hard Rock Shirt-a-thon on a high note.
ABOUT FREE GUITARS FOR KIDS Founded in St. Louis Park in 2021, FG4K is focused on changing the lives of children through the gift of music. FG4K not only believes music is one of the greatest gifts to be given, but also that the opportunity to play, compose or perform songs is one that every child should be afforded; and it is their goal to do just that! FG4K believes that putting an instrument into the hands of a kid does not go far enough to ensure that the child receives the full benefit of an instrument. That’s why FG4K seeks out partner organizations across the country to help ensure kids receive lessons, but more importantly, mentorship. They want these kids to thrive and the guitar is an instrument towards that goal! Nonprofit organizations across the country can apply to bring FG4K to their organization. https://fg4k.org/ https://fg4k.org/mattrocksshirts/
ABOUT CONSOLATION CHAMP Consolation Champ played their first show together in January of 2005 at the 400 Bar in Minneapolis. 375 performances, 37 states, 4 weddings, 11 children, and 6 dogs later, these balding buddies from Bloomington Minnesota continue to pursue good songs and good shows that move people. Shorthand for a Long Walk is the band’s fourth album and was extremely fun to make. A record meant to inspire reflection and creativity amid the demands of adulthood, it’s C. Champ’s best attempt yet at making songs with universal subject matter and a classic sound that still manage to be interesting. consolationchamp.com instagram.com/consolation_champ facebook.com/consolationchamp https://www.youtube.com/@consolationchamp9714
ABOUT JOEY RYAN & THE INKS Technically dormant for over a half decade, Joey Ryan & The Inks will once again reunite at Eve Eve to play a handful of songs from their catalog. Leaning into sunny psychedelia, harmonies, and tight arrangements, this band makes pop music bursting at the seams with warmth and color. https://joeyryanandtheinks.bandcamp.com https://www.youtube.com/user/jrandtheinks1 https://www.instagram.com/theinksdontstink https://www.facebook.com/joeyryanandtheinks
ABOUT THE EXCHANGE The Exchange used to do cool things. They still like each other and, along with their pet cat, Anna Lee, are excited to try and remember their songs.
